Intro:

What began as a dad blanket-planned, measured, designed….-quickly turned into a “Nope” from my 5 year old. He insisted that Daddy wouldn’t want a blanket like that and would much rather Circles. I told him circles had to be joined somehow with another shape. So here we are. Circles in a hexagon. My previous plans were wiped out and the Winter Solstice blanket was born.

For this blanket we used WeCrochet Wool of the Andes in Bulky, non superwash. The colours are rich jewel tones and give off the most wonderful winter vibes. You can purchase your yarn here: WeCrochet Wool of the Andes Bulky (affiliate link).

I hope you all love it as much as my 5 year old does. He curated the colours and shapes just for you!

How to double crochet 5 together (dc5tog): Ch 3, Yo and inset hook into 3rd ch from hook, Yo over and pull up a loop, Yo and pull through 2. Repeat this 4 more times. You should have 6 loops on your hook. Yo and pull though all 6 loops. Anchor the bobble with sl st into the next st.

Pattern Notes

  • Each hexagon motif consists of 4 rounds and measured approximately 5 inches across.

  • Gauge will affect yarn quantities. If your motifs are larger than 5” inches across, you will require more yarn.

  • If you want to use a larger or smaller hook; please note that your yarn quantities will differ from the pattern.

  • I did my absolute best to use up every inch of yarn in the majority of the skeins. For those indicated above with the full skein used –I usually had about a 6-20” tail of yarn leftover. Keep this in mind when ordering. Gauge will definitely affect yarn quantities.
