Intro.

Bringing it back to the beginning of 2024 with this one!! I loved bringing this pattern to life earlier in the year with the Nordic Star Sunburst Blanket featuring the Speakeasy Collection by Hue Loco Yarn. This time though, we’re using an ultra winter friendly palette called the Cozy in Colorado Collection from Hue Loco The combination of quilt inspired squares meets the classic Scandinavian Star design—I can’t get enough of this blanket. Everything about it screams heirloom. It’s one for the ages— or those you love most :)

The Yarn…

The Cozy in Colorado Collection is a set of 10 colours from Hue Loco Yarn. From it, I used the 10 colours to make up the main squares for my Nordic Star blanket design. For the background and join of the blanket, I used an in-stock Semi Solid from Hue Loco in the colour Snowshoe.

Pattern Notes

  • In some cases, the video tutorials have been used for other patterns. Please follow the yarn recommendations, hook size and stitch counts in the written pattern- the videos are only meant as visual guides.

  • Gauge will affect yarn quantities, please adjust hook size to meet gauge.

  • Ch 2 counts as DC throughout.

  • Ch 3 counts as tr throughout.

  • The blanket construction is made up of two squares; sunburst granny squares for the Nordic star and solid granny squares for the background of the blanket.

  • The Colour Legend is my attempt to provide you with colour accurate photos/generic colour names that you can use if you’d like to find an alternative yarn.

  • For this blanket I chose to seam them together using a slip stitch in the back loops. This creates a beautiful, tidy square on the front of the blanket—with visible seams/ridges on the backside of the blanket. When the squares are worked together this way the blanket is a little less reversible, but I do find that it’s a sturdier seam that worked well with the bigger and heavier blanket.
