Getting Started/Intro:
The weather’s starting to turn in my part of the world and that means I’m totally ready to be snuggled up in a blanket, making blankets and buying ALL THE YARN. While I love the original Coastline Sunburst Hexie Blanket Pattern— this super chunky version has my heart singing! Just like last years Special Edition Island Time Blanket, this one is quick to work up-the colour combinations are endless, and the result is a giant blanket my entire family can curl up under. Movie night…here we come :)
Because of the success and love for last years Special Edition Blankets; Steph (@thecreativeknitter) and I, decided that this blanket needed to be a crochet-a-long (CAL). What’s more fun than the squishiest blanket I can think of and building community!? I can think of nothing. I hope you all join us for this years CAL and share our beautiful makes together with the hashtag: #autumncoastlineCAL on INSTAGRAM.
Follow Steph (@thecreativeknitter) and I (@nautikrallcrochet) as well as #autumncoastlineCAL on Instagram for all the updates! We will both be doing another blanket throughout the CAL because-why not, right!?!?!? I’ll have my yarn and colour options listed below and will be posting updates on Instagram throughout. Can’t wait to see all your beautiful makes!!!

Pattern Notes
Gauge will affect yarn quantities, please adjust hook size to meet gauge.
Ch 2 counts as DC throughout.
Please note that the differences in yarn quantities above depict differences in tension and possible skein variances. I made 8 sunbursts for 3 (Flax, Spice and Succulent) of the colours and the 4th colour (Petrol Blue) has 6 sunbursts.
Blanket is constructed using CJAYG, where each motif is turned into a hexagon while joining the next motif in the blanket. If you choose to join your blanket a different way-please note yarn quantities will differ (you’ll need more).
This makes an enormous blanket—if you’d like a more “lap sized” or “throw sized” blanket then I suggest making it 5x5 hexies. This will still result in a rectangular shape because of the way hexies are inset with one another. It’ll just be a more reasonable length, same width.
Each sunburst weighed approx. 75g with appox. 31g to join each one if you’d like to adjust the size of your blanket.
Don’t forget to share your makes on Instagram and Facebook! I always love seeing what you have all worked up. Tag me on Instagram @nautikrallcrochet or Facebook @nautikrall_crochet, or use the hashtag: #autumncoastlineCAL

***Please see video tutorial below for how to crochet Large Sunburst Hexies:
Assembling Motifs with Continuous Join-As-You-Go (CJAYGO)
With RS of sunbursts face up, lay out all motifs in the arrangement from the colour graph above.
Using Colour A, start in top right-hand corner to join hexagons across the rows.
Example: First row will be joined from hexagon number 6 across to hexagon number 1. The second row will start with hexagon number 12 and be worked across to hexagon number 7.
Following along with the video tutorial, crochet hexagons together until blanket is complete.
Once back to the start of the blanket (in the top right-hand corner)- DO NOT FASTEN OFF.
You are now ready to start Border Round 1.
***Please see the YouTube video tutorial below for the CJAYG method of joining these sunbursts:
Border
**Continued from CJAYG…
Round 1
SC in same st and each st along.
Work a SC dec in the valleys of each hexagon and 1 SC in each ch-1 sp of the peaks.
Join rnd with sl st into first SC.
Do not fasten off.
Round 2
Ch 1, SC into next st and each st along.
Put 2 SC into the SC of the peak of previous round and work the valleys with just a SC st (no need to dec).
Join rnd with a sl st into the ch-1.
Fasten off, weave in all ends.
Tassels
Using the Colour A, create 4 tassels for the corners of the blanket. I use this tutorial: https://youtu.be/6VDCJJOcYt0
Using an 7-inch-long book (or tassel maker), wrap yarn 25 times to achieve appropriately sized tassel.
Trim ends and attach to blanket (mine ended up measuring approximately 6.5” long after trimming).
Pro-tip: I tie my tassels onto the blanket with a little bow, this way when I need to wash the blanket, I can easily remove them!
